If God is perfect, why is there a universe?
by Coded Logic inlooking for any weaknesses in my arguments.
i put them together not to show that the conclusions are true but rather to prove that the first premise in each of them (used by religious people) is incoherent with the rest of their beliefs.
please feel free to point out what you think works or doesn't work and why.

Anti-Ontological Argument
Premise 1: God is a perfect being
Premise 2: A perfect being would be perfectly expressed
Premise 3: Creation is an act of expression
Conclusion: God would not create the universe because he would have already been perfectly expressed
.
Anti-Interaction Argument
Premise 1: God is unchanging
Premise 2: The universe is always changing
Premise 3: Interaction is a form of change
Conclusion: God cannot interact with the universe without changing

I respectfully have to disagree (partially) with Sloppyjoe. It's not just the JWs who are losing steam in their numbers. Worldwide, religion is losing its grip both in the numbers of people who attend church and also in the watered down versions of peoples faith. Less people believe - and the ones that do believe are less dogmatic than ever.
With every generation since the 1930s, the number of believers only ever decreases within their generation. 90% were believers in their twenties - by the time their in their sixties only 80% will still be believers. In the US, the 'kids' born in the 80s those who identify as religious are only one in three. And all indications are every generation after them will be even less so.
The JWs level of growth has been dropping since the mid 80s. Right now, worldwide, its only growing at about 2.2%. Barely above the populatation growth rate. It's inevitable that eventually more people will start leaving or dying than are being recruited. It's not a matter of if but when. I think the WTBTS will be around for a long time. But their golden days of growth are long behind them.
They don't have a sustainable model and they know it. That's why their so desperate to try and rebrand themselves. Hopefully it will backfire.

Global War on Religion Has Began - Archbishop Wabukala
by cofty inthe anglican archbishop of kenya, eliud wabukala has declared that the terrorist attacks in kenya by al shabaab is part of a global war on organised religion.... speaking to a men's association conference yesterday he blamed "militant promotion of atheism" and called on all religions to unite against the threat.. how long until the geniuses at brooklyn towers quotes him as an authority on world affairs, as opposed to the paranoid buffoon that he is?.

Damn atheist! They keep making the religious people fight each other. All religions would live in perfect harmony if it weren't for atheist and their evil humanist values like tolerance and empathy. Who do they think they are?

7 questions to make JWs think
by Coded Logic in) why do animals suffer and die?.
) if this is all about god's soverenty, why cause the flood?
how does it prove "man cannot direct their own step" if god immediately turns around and wipes men out for " eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage ?".

1.) Why do animals suffer and die?
2.) If this is all about God's soverenty, why cause the flood? How does it prove "man cannot direct their own step" if God immediately turns around and wipes men out for " eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage ?"
3.) Why did God confuse the languages at the tower of babel? What was God afraid of?
4.) How much faith do you have that the Governing Body is the Faithful and Discreet Slave? If the Watchtower told everyone to kill their firstborn - would you do it?
5.) Is there any line you wouldn't cross to get into paradise. Or is it everything goes?
6.) How can we say, "People just want to do whatever they want" when all your own actions are reward based too?(paradise)
7.) Way more people are being born than baptized (hundreds of millions), if God didn't want any to be destroyed why didn't the end come decades ago?

Taking the Bible "too" literally
by Coded Logic ini once heard it said that the only people who care about what the bible says are the village priest and the village atheist.
it seems to me most believers only care about "god's word" in very general terms and think it's all up to interpitation (religion a la carte ).. it the watchtower especially good at making agnostics and atheists because of their fundamentalism or is this true of many ex-religious groups?.

Be effective or people will die
by Odrade inmy husband and i have been out of the org for quite some time, but still find that old ideas and values come up and bite us on the ass.. lately, i've been plagued by an increase in the frequency and severity of my nightmares (which have always been an issue,) so i've begun to dream journal.
in just a few days, this realization cropped up.
i can't save people.. i've been blogging again recently.

I always woried about people who had NO TRESSPASSING signs. We wrote letters and did phone witnessing but I always doubted we really reached those people. I remember wondering if people with those signs were all just not "honest hearted".

Why we need God
by Coded Logic inif there was no god we would not have an objective standard to tell the difference between red from blue.
who would determine what is red and what is blue if there was no god?
it would be chaos!

I'm sorry, did I order a word salad? I think you were supposed to deliver that to Deepak Chopra's table.
I've read your comment a dozen times now and I serriously have no idea what you're trying to say.

If there was no God we would not have an objective standard to tell the difference between red and blue. Who would determine what is red and what is blue if there was no God? It would be chaos! Anything would go. The colors would be whatever someone says they are. Really, who are we to say what the colors are? Thank goodness we have God to tell us the difference between red and blue . . .
If the above statement sounds completely moronic to you that's because it is. And substituting the words "red and blue" with the words "good and bad" makes the above paragraph no less stupid. There are real metrics we use to distinguish colors. Likewise, there are real metrics we use to distinguish good actions from bad actions. For colors its the wavelength of light. For morality its the well being of sentient creatures. Things that cause harm are bad. Things that promote happiness and well being are good.
The ultimate standard of truth is NOT a God. The ultimate standard of truth is reality.
